Ready, Aim, Fire: On site at Peoria PlayHouse

The ball cannon: Jay and Adam even got to test out this exhibit!

Jay and Adam have returned from their visit to the Peoria PlayHouse Children's Museum in Peoria, IL. They spent 3 days on site aiming and programming the lights installed in the facility. We were working along side other contractors who were busily completing the install of the exhibits.

This marks the end of the project for us at ALD as the project nears completion. The museum, whose exhibits were designed by Jack Rouse Associates, opens to the public on June 12th! We were very pleased to be a part of the project and we hope the children of Peoria enjoy the museum as much as Adam and Jay.

Spotlight on Newport

The new exterior lighting for Trinity Church, 2015.
This weekend is the final 2 days that the international Volvo Ocean Race will be moored in Newport, Rhode Island. This event has brought tourism and media coverage into our home state from all over the world! It's so wonderful that we get to host such a unique event in our state and we hope it has increased public attention to the wonderful tourist stops, historical venues, and businesses in the area. We always enjoy working with local organizations and businesses to improve their visible presence in the community and decrease their energy footprint.

We recently had the opportunity to work with Trinity Church in Newport to do just that! In conjunction with Haynes/DeBoer Architecture + Preservation we were asked to maintain the church's existing look while making the exterior lighting more energy efficient. We were able to quickly utilize scaffolding that had already been constructed for other repairs to replace the existing lighting system with new LED flood and accent lights. We also had a minimal impact on the building structure because we were able to reuse the old mounting locations for the new lights! This was especially important as the church is an iconic historical landmark in Newport. The church was originally constructed in 1726, and while it is still a working Episcopal parish, the church is open to the public for historical tours.

On-site Mock-up: RI State House

Jay adjusting one of the LED units
ALD recently set up an on-site mock-up for our ongoing Rhode Island State House project. Our services have been retained by Creative Environment Corporation to collaborate on the re-design of the lighting for the exterior of the building using energy-efficient LEDs that can be programmed to change colors for special events, holidays, etc...

An on-site mock-up is a vital part of the lighting design process. It allows us to validate the design concept and the lighting calculations we have done, while providing the client a preview of what the finished design will look like. The mock-up is a bridge between the computer generated rendering of the design and reality. Stay tuned for more reality photos as the project continues to move forward!
